So far in NRLW, the Cronulla Sharks have always been a case of so close yet so far but with the addition of multi-sport international Tyla King, anything is possible.

The Sharks have signed King to a two-year deal has been travelling the globe and representing her country across numerous sports for many years now.

King, a popular Kiwi rugby sevens star, has also represented the Kiwis in rugby union, touch and tag, and has won two Olympic gold medals in the sevens.

But King is no stranger to NRLW having played with the St George Illawarra Dragons for the last two seasons.

Though in King’s eyes, a move to the Sharks at this stage in her career is what works best.

“It’s the right fit for me at this time of my career,” said King.

“I’m so excited to be fully focused on the NRLW and the Sharks as a team.”

In what is even better news for the Sharks, King will be able to devote her entire time to their system, club and setup, having put rugby sevens on the backburner.

“My everything is in the NRLW this year – there’s no jumping back and forth between rugby sevens,” King continued.

“It’s full force for the NRLW and the Sharks.

“I’m super excited to be in Cronulla or the Shire, as they say – a good spot with a few good beaches. No doubt it will remind me of home in Mount Maunganui.”

There was little to say from Sharks NRLW coach Tony Herman as he knows how good King is and what she can bring to the club.

“Tyla’s achievements speak for themselves – she is a genuine superstar and the ultimate pro,” Herman said.

“It’s tremendous for our club to have someone of Tyla’s calibre here until at least 2026.

“She has the class and big-game experience to help take us to the next level.”
