Seen as a potential long-term half option and replacement for their existing options, the Sydney Roosters have re-signed Sandon Smith for two more seasons.
Smith’s new deal runs until the end of the 2026 season with the player having the honour of coming through the club’s Central Coast program.
Smith joined the club at just 15 and with an ability to play anywhere in the spine, his versatility saw him prove a valuable asset as he totalled 15 NRL games in 2023.
The Roosters is home for Smith and the rookie believes he learns something new every day.
“I love being part of the crew we have here at the Roosters,” Smith said.
“It’s my home and I’m learning so much from the coaches and senior players every day.
“I’m excited to keep learning, working hard and building my career as a Rooster.”
Sydney Roosters coach Trent Robinson praised Smith and his coastie roots and knows the young gun will feature in the long-term plans.
“Sandon’s a really proud Coastie, and we’re proud that he’s the first player to progress to the NRL via our partnership with the Central Coast,” said Robinson.
“I love working with Sandon.
“The talent has always been there and he’s constantly striving to be the best player and person he can be, so its really pleasing that he will continue to represent the Sydney Roosters, and not only the Eastern Suburbs, but also the Central Coast.”
